    • The NJ STARS (Student Tuition Assistance Reward Scholarship) Program — Your Chance to Shine at HCCC!

      NJ STARS is a scholarship program exclusively for New Jersey residents. The program covers the cost of tuition for up to five semesters at Hudson County Community College and New Jersey’s 18 other community colleges.

      NJ STARS is open to students who graduate in the top 15% of their high school class, and have completed a rigorous series of high school courses (as determined by the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education in consultation with the New Jersey Commissioner of Education. High school students who do graduate in the top 15% of their class must first apply for all other federal and state financial aid that may be available by filing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) annually.

      NJ STARS scholars must be enrolled in an associate degree program at HCCC, and must take at least 12 — and as many as 18 — college credits per semester.

      NJ STARS scholarships are renewed when students maintain a 3.0 or better grade point average.


      HCCC College Readiness NJ STARS Eligibility Requirements:
      Students identified as potential NJ STARS must achieve the required score on a college placement test to demonstrate readiness for college-level coursework prior to receiving a scholarship. If remediation is required, the student has one year from September 1st following high school graduation to demonstrate college readiness.

      In addition to ranking in the top 15% of class at the end of junior or senior year, a STARS student must prove college readiness. A STARS student can prove college readiness by any of the following means:

      • SAT scores: Reading/Writing 480+ Math 530+
      • ACT English or Reading 21+ ; Math 21+
      • 3.0-3.4 GPA plus SAT ERW 450+
      • 3.0-3.4 GPA plus SAT Math 500+
      • HCCC Accuplacer test
      • AP Scores
