April 16, 2021, Jersey City, NJ – The Hudson County Community College (HCCC) Department of Cultural Affairs invites community members to shake off the winter and pandemic doldrums by participating in free virtual April events that celebrate the fine and performing arts, practice wellness, and nurture creativity.
Wellness Wednesday with Mindful Play Yoga on April 14, 2021 at 10 a.m. will focus on the theme, “Kindness Begins With Me.” The event is inspired by Naomi Shihab Nye’s poem “Kindness.” To participate, log on https://www.facebook.com/mindfulplayyoga/.
In Full Color with Summer Dawn presents Step Up to the Mic on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. At least one budding poet-activist from the HCCC and Jersey City community will work with director Summer Dawn to edit, craft, and refine their poetry live. Attendees will also celebrate National Poetry Month with works by other great local poets.
On Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at 6:30 p.m., the College will present Jersey City…In Full Color with three Jersey City writers sharing their activist poetry and monologues.

Young Masters Art Classes with Kristin DeAngelis on Friday, April 16, 2021 at 10 a.m. celebrates Earth Day 2021 with HCCC Professor and noted artist Laurie Riccadonna guiding and inspiring young artists. The event is available at https://www.facebook.com/youngmastersartclass.
Hudson Presents: Conversations with Contemporary Artists will highlight photographer, Lucas Thorpe on Friday, April 16, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. HCCC Professor and host Michael Lee will talk artist-to-artist with Mr. Thorpe about his work, and the events and culture that shaped him as a person and an artist. The Saturday Drawing Series with Katie Niewodowski on April 17, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. is designed for beginners, but will inspire a love of drawing for individuals with all levels of experience. Ms. Niewodowski is a Jersey City based artist who teaches drawing at HCCC and Montclair State University.
